FARMINGTON, Conn., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Darwin Professional Underwriters, Inc. (Darwin) has partnered with the American Medical Billing Association (AMBA) to offer its members professional liability coverage designed specifically for the needs of medical billers and coders.

The policy, developed by Darwin, is a named perils policy where coverage can be customized to fit the exact needs of each policyholder. It includes contingent bodily injury coverage and offers a $25,000 punitive damages sublimit (within the policy limits, where applicable by law). Prior acts coverage is also available. AMBA members can choose two policy limit options, $500,000/$500,000 or $500,000/$1 million.

Nicole Haggerty, assistant vice president of Darwin, said, 'While a medical biller or coder is not actively engaged in diagnostic or direct patient care, the services they provide have some impact on the administration or oversight of medical care. As such, there could be some contingent bodily injury or privacy-related exposure for which they need coverage.'
