OTS Appoints ViewPoint Bank President/CEO Gary Base to Mutual Savings Association Advisory Committee

PLANO, Texas, June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) has appointed Gary Base, president and CEO of Plano-based ViewPoint Financial Group (Nasdaq: VPFG) and its subsidiary ViewPoint Bank, to a two-year term on its Mutual Savings Association Advisory Committee. Base is one of 12 banking executives appointed to the committee, and the only one from Texas.

Committee members will discuss the needs of mutual institutions, assess the unique challenges they face and advise the OTS on how best to supervise mutuals now and in the future. Its first meeting will be held June 9 at OTS headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Base joined the company in 1987 and presided over its growth and eventual conversion from a local credit union to a publicly traded, $2.2 billion institution. During his career, Base has served on the Thrift Institutions Advisory Council for the Federal Reserve in Washington, D.C., and as the Chairman of a Texas state commission for over 10 years. He's also a member of the American Bankers Association's Government Relations Committee. In addition, he's been active in his local community, serving as Chairman of the Plano Chamber of Commerce, a member of four city commissions and on the Board of Trustees for the Plano Independent School District. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the North Texas Tollway Authority.
