VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - June 27, 2007) - True North Gems (TSX VENTURE:TGX) is pleased to announce that the Company's shareholders supported management's recommendations during voting at the True North Gems' Annual General Meeting held in Vancouver on June 22, 2007.
Among the resolutions approved was the election of Directors, a slate which included Robert Boyd, former President of Ashton Mining as a new member of the Board.
For the coming year, True North Gems Board of Directors will be:
Andrew Lee Smith, P. Geo.
Mr. Smith has 20 years of experience successfully exploring, developing and operating North American base and precious metal mining projects. Mr. Smith is the president of Iron Mask Exploration Ltd., a Vancouver-based corporate and geological management firm that consults to the mining industry. Mr. Smith is the co-founder of True North Gems.
Greg Fekete, B.A, L.L.B.
Mr. Fekete is a lawyer specializing in corporate and mining matters, advising a wide variety of both public and private companies. Mr. Fekete has over a decade of experience in the mining sector, in both the business and legal sides of the industry. He is a director and corporate secretary to other public and private mining companies.
Nick Houghton, A.G. (C.I.G.)
Mr. Houghton is an accredited Gemmologist with 30 years of experience in jewellery manufacturing, design, and marketing. He has worked in both retail and wholesale markets for diamonds and coloured stones, and also brings a wealth of expertise in design work and marketing to True North.
William Anderson, P. Geo.
Mr. Anderson is a geologist and industry consultant with over 30 years of experience in mining and exploration. He is currently the CEO and President of First Nickel Inc., a company he co-founded, a TSX listed junior mining company currently focusing on commercial production from the Lockerby Mine near Sudbury, Ontario. Mr. Anderson has extensive experience in Greenland, and consults to the Greenland Bureau of Minerals and Petroleum.
John Ryder, P. Geo.
Mr. Ryder has been engaged in mineral exploration worldwide for over 30 years. He was the co-discover of the Drumleery lead--zinc deposit in Ireland and was directly involved in the discovery of the 300 million+ tonne al Jalamid phosphate deposit in Saudi Arabia. Between 1991 and 2001, he worked as a private geological consultant in the fields of gold, platinum and diamond exploration in North, South and Central America. During this time he discovered the first diamond host rocks in a subduction zone setting in California and also the first diamonds in the James Bay region in Quebec.
Robert Boyd, P. Geo., F.G.A.
Mr. Boyd is a mining executive with more than 30 years experience in exploration, executive-level management, corporate finance, and corporate governance. Mr. Boyd is currently a Director of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada and the Association for Mineral Exploration BC. He was formerly the President, CEO, and Director of Ashton Mining of Canada Inc., a leading diamond exploration company. He was a founding principal and major shareholder of a financial and strategic advisory firm, and was also formerly Vice President Exploration for Homestake Canada Limited.
In addition to the election of Directors, all of the resolutions, as notified to shareholders in the proxy circular, a copy of which may be found on SEDAR, were passed. At a Director's meeting held after the AGM, the Board approved the appointment of Nick Houghton as Vice President of Product Development and Greg Fekete as Secretary.
