VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - June 16, 2006) - True North Gems (TSX VENTURE:TGX) is pleased to announce the filing of a 43-101 report detailing the results of the 2005 exploration program on the Company's wholly owned emerald property located in the Finlayson Lake area of southeast Yukon, Canada. Technical tasks for the 2005 season were comprised of surface trenching, mini-bulk and exploration sampling, logging of the 2002-2004 drill core, infill soil geochemistry, upgrades of the exploration sample processing plant, mapping and additional custom sample processing from True North Gems' other Yukon gemstone properties. The 2005 exploration was focused on the numerous targets generated by the 2004 drilling, trenching and soil geochemistry programs.
The sampling program comprised twenty-one trenches, ranging from 5 metres to 50 metres in length for a total of 680 metres. Several trenches extended and deepened thin exposures of quartz and aplite, initially exposed during 2002-2003, with much success. The trenching identified numerous new quartz and tourmaline veins, typically with well developed alteration haloes, ranging from less than 1 metre to more than 6 metres in thickness and to more than 50 metres in exposed length.
Emeralds were recovered directly from eleven of the eighteen 2005 trench faces and from processing of the mini-bulk samples. Additional changes to the processing plant and increased production rates using a 24/7 schedule over the field season permitted the processing of up 120 tonnes per day of material, for a total 3,300 tonnes including 1,920 tonnes from the Far West, West, Mattscar and Southwest veins trenched in 2005.
