Skovronsky, M.D., Ph.D., Founder and CEO, will present at the J.P. Morgan 28th Annual Healthcare Conference.
Dr. Skovronsky’s presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 a.m. PST in Elizabethan C/D. Dr. Skovronsky will provide attendees with an update on Phase III clinical trials and commercialization efforts for the company’s amyloid imaging compound 18F-AV-45 (AV-45). This tracer is the most advanced compound of its type in development for imaging amyloid plaque in the brain associated with Alzheimer’s disease. In 2009, AV-45 entered a pivotal registration study using a unique trial design that was based upon recommendations by the FDA peripheral and CNS advisory committee.
Avid’s second program, 18F-AV-133 (AV-133) PET imaging of the vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) in patients with suspected dopaminergic degeneration, is currently in Phase II clinical trials. AV-133 has also been shown to be a marker for beta cells of the pancreas in preclinical studies. The compound is now in Phase I studies to test the ability of this molecular imaging agent to distinguish type 1 and type 2 diabetes subjects from healthy, normal individuals based on a PET scan of the pancreas.
