Reliant Energy Joins with Choice Facility Partners to Offer Electricity Services to Government Entities across Texas

Jun. 28, 2010 (Business Wire) -- Reliant Energy was recently chosen by the Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) as a Texas electricity provider for Choice Facility Partners (CFP) which provides cooperative purchasing services for schools, education-related organizations and other governmental entities across the state.

“The CFP Energy Purchasing Program offers true transparency and efficiency rolled into one electricity procurement service,” said Dean Zajicek, Director, Choice Facility Partners. “Through our program government entities have access to competitively bid electricity supply contracts and greater confidence in their energy-purchase decisions.”

“We’re proud that the trustees of the Harris County Department of Education selected Reliant as an electricity provider for Choice Facility Partners’ Texas energy purchasing program,” said Tom Gros, Senior Vice President, Reliant Energy. “This new partnership reaffirms our position as one of the leading electricity providers in the state and gives our company the opportunity to provide a unique combination of tools, innovation, service, competitive pricing and reliability to public sector customers.”

The CFP Energy Purchasing Program combines the public procurement process with wholesale market pricing and metrics provided by the program coordinator, Tradition Energy, one of the world’s largest energy procurement advisors. Tradition Energy’s wholesale energy brokerage service gives managers full access to wholesale energy market indicators, which allows them to provide additional insights and ensure energy rate competitiveness.

“The program structure will maximize pricing leverage for governmental entities,” according to Bob Wooten, Director of Strategic Solutions for Tradition Energy. “Taxpayers and stewards of public funds will find value in seeing where market prices are, because it will confirm they are making the best procurement decisions possible.”

The Harris County Department of Education, CFP’s sponsoring agency, approved contracts for Reliant and Tradition Energy at its May board meeting.
