The joint initiative of the New Cities Foundation and King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), Cityquest has been organized as a global high level exchange focusing on new urban mega projects. Under the theme "Connectivity as a Key Driver of Competitiveness in New Cities," this edition of the Cityquest - KAEC Forum aimed to initiate cross-sector conversation and foster a global leadership exchange among key visionaries, partners and builders of the most innovative global new city projects.

The event brought together over 150 international participants from across the private, public sectors, including industry leaders and stakeholders, to explore how connectivity drives competitiveness and sustainable success for the next generation of cities.

Mr. Danko was joined by a panel of three thought leaders who contributed to the discussion of ideas and lessons learned to innovatively create resource-efficient, vibrant, connected cities-accessible communities that attract business and provide an environment where people want to live and work.

Mr. Danko shared key strategies that have contributed to successful outcomes on major urban projects and programmes at CH2M HILL. He focused on the importance of an inclusive approach, a smart urban design plan that accentuates the city's strengths, connectivity and a framework for success.

"Connected and competitive cities are not all about the gadgets, buildings, transportation, and other infrastructure; it is how we create the public 'experience'-the streets and squares, the places and parks-that will be the lasting legacy of cities," Mr. Danko said. "Integrating the historic and cultural fabric with creativity and innovation creates a sense of place in the public realm. This creates community-that sense of belonging to something special about 'my place.'  It is key to develop diverse solutions that include everyone in the community," he added.
