First OTC Asia's Technical Papers Offer Proven and Potential Cost-Saving Solutions

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Jan. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- OTC Asia 2014 will present nearly 400 papers in 53 technical and 4 Knowledge Sharing ePoster sessions to provide solutions to the challenges facing Asia's oil and gas industry.

The technical papers offer proven and potential cost- and time-saving solutions in drilling, chemical EOR, FLNG, offshore pipelines, reservoir management, sand management and geosciences. OTC Asia 2014 will also include two executive plenary sessions, 10 panel sessions and 10 country briefing sessions.

Held for the first time in Asia, OTC Asia will be held 25-28 March 2014 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia. Oil majors participating at the 4-day conference and exhibition include Shell, Baker Hughes, Subsea 7, PETRONAS, China National Petroleum Corporation, Aker Solutions, Scomi, Pemex, PTT Exploration and Production Company, and Talisman.

Malaysia, Indonesia, China, India, and Australia collectively will account for 85% of the deepwater drilling; and engineering, procurement, construction, installation & commissioning contract spending in the APAC region. Global deepwater capital expenditure (CAPEX) spending is expected to rise from a 38% share in 2012 to a 53% share of global offshore CAPEX by 2017.

Espousing these projections, the technical paper "Deepwater Growth in Asia Pacific and Growing Regional Installation and Pipelay Vessels Capability To Meet the Challenges" points out that the availability of deepwater installation, pipe lay and SURF vessels will be the key to meeting timely availability and overall cost competitiveness with lower mobilisation/demobilisation cost; regional offshore execution experience; regulatory requirement and managing diverse monsoon weather windows across the region.

"Designing a High Resolution Chemical Surveillance Network in a Deepwater Field Off NW Borneo, East Malaysia" highlights the system design, quality control, and application of the chemical tracer network from conception through field installation. The Siakap North - Petai field will be the first field developed employing full chemical tracer coverage across each producing well.

"Horizontal Appraisal Well Placement Best Practices to Develop New Oil Prospects in Clastic Reservoir of Cuu Long Basin" provides three case studies from drilling horizontal appraisal wells with fit-for-purpose geosteering methods to address the challenges in different oil prospects while reducing the number of pilot holes. An integrated project team involving geosteering specialists, sub-surface team, drilling engineers, and well-site personnel was assembled to ensure an efficient decision-making process. As a result, the production rate from each of the three wells was more than 50% above the anticipated rate with zero water cut. The number of pilot holes was reduced to one out of potentially three.

These three papers provide insight into the high-caliber OTC Asia technical programme, which offers cutting-edge technology innovation that is useful and relevant to the oil and gas industry.
